1. Commit to a Practice of Renewing Your Mind
One of the most powerful ways to show up as your best self is by regularly renewing your mind. Think of this as “housecleaning” for your brain. Just like you might declutter your home to create a welcoming space for guests, you need to declutter your thoughts to create a welcoming space for positive emotions and experiences.
We live in a world where it’s easy to focus on the negative. Whether it’s the news, social media, or just the general busyness of life, our minds can quickly fill up with thoughts that don’t serve us. That’s why it’s crucial to regularly take inventory of what’s going on in your head. Are you dwelling on limiting beliefs? Are you stuck in a cycle of negative thinking?
A simple daily practice of journaling, meditating, or doing thought downloads can make a huge difference. In our Life Mentoring School, we use a tool called the creation cycle to help you identify and transform thoughts that aren’t serving you. By doing this mental “housecleaning,” you’ll find that you have more space for joy, creativity, and connection with others.
2. Acknowledge and Process Your Emotions
Being in tune with your emotions is essential for showing up as your best self. When you’re aware of what you’re feeling and why, you can better manage your reactions and interactions with others. Ignoring or suppressing your emotions doesn’t make them go away—it just makes them harder to deal with later.
Take a moment each day to check in with yourself. Are you feeling frustrated, overwhelmed, or anxious? Instead of pushing those feelings aside, acknowledge them. Ask yourself what might be causing these emotions and give yourself the space to process them. This practice doesn’t take long, but it can make a world of difference in how you interact with others. You’ll find that you’re less reactive and more present, which creates a more loving and supportive environment for everyone around you.
3. Do More of What Brings You Joy
Joy is contagious, and when you’re doing things that make you happy, it naturally spills over into your interactions with others. But how often do we let joy fall to the bottom of our priority list? Life gets busy, and responsibilities pile up, but it’s important to carve out time for activities that bring you happiness.
Whether it’s reading a good book, taking a walk in nature, or indulging in a favorite hobby, make sure you’re scheduling joy into your day. For me, it’s things like wake surfing, taking hot baths, or simply enjoying a quiet moment on the porch. These joyful moments recharge you and give you the energy to show up fully for the people in your life.
4. Prioritize Your Physical Wellness
Taking care of your physical health is another crucial way to ensure you’re at your best. Are you feeding yourself well? Are you getting enough rest? Are you moving your body regularly? These might seem like basic questions, but they’re foundational to how you show up in the world.
I’ve found that when I neglect my physical wellness—whether it’s skipping meals, not getting enough sleep, or putting off exercise—I’m not able to show up as my best self. And it’s not just about maintaining energy levels; it’s about feeling good in your body so that you can be present and engaged in your life.
Simple practices like making a green juice, going for a walk, or getting to bed a little earlier can make a big difference. When you take care of your physical self, you create a strong foundation that allows you to show up with love and joy for others.
5. Surround Yourself with Support
Finally, don’t underestimate the power of community and support. Whether it’s through friendships, coaching, or being part of a group like our Life Mentoring School, surrounding yourself with people who lift you up is essential. We often go to great lengths to make sure our children or loved ones are supported, but how often do we invest in ourselves in the same way?
Don’t be afraid to seek out the support you need. Whether it’s a coach, a mentor, or a group of like-minded individuals, having that network can help you stay on track, keep you accountable, and give you the encouragement you need to continue showing up as your best self.
By prioritizing these five areas, you’ll not only enrich your own life but also create a more loving and joyful space for those around you. Remember, the work you do on yourself is the greatest gift you can give to others. When you show up fully—mind, body, and soul—you create a ripple effect that touches everyone you come into contact with.
So, dear ones, take these practical tips to heart and start implementing them in your daily life. I can’t wait to see how you show up as your best, most loving, most nourishing self!
