Why Becoming Your True Self Matters
We spend so much of our lives operating from a version of ourselves that feels less than true. Whether it’s fear, insecurity, or even resentment driving our actions, we find ourselves disconnected from the joy and peace we know are possible. The good news is, you don’t have to stay stuck in that place. There is a part of you—your true self—that longs to live in love, freedom, and abundance. And that's what we're talking about today.
As I was thinking about this topic, I couldn’t help but notice how the journey to becoming your true self aligns with so much of what I learned from my faith. It's about moving away from the "false self," that old ego that keeps us stuck, and stepping into the new, redeemed version of who we are in Christ. I remember first realizing how these coaching tools mirror what scripture teaches about living a redeemed life. It's not about striving to be better so God will love us—He already does! Instead, it’s about stepping into the identity He’s given us.
What Does It Mean to Live as Your True Self?
When you live from your true self, you’re no longer operating from fear, anxiety, or scarcity. Instead, you’re living from a place of love, joy, and abundance. You're showing up in the world as the person God created you to be, embracing everything that makes you unique and powerful. And let me tell you, it is a beautiful, freeing way to live.
But how do we know when we’re living as our true self versus the false self?
Here’s a little snapshot of what it looks like:
- True Self is Open and Vulnerable: This means you’re willing to be known—by God, by others, and by yourself. You stop hiding, and you allow yourself to be seen. Vulnerability isn’t a weakness; it’s a strength that leads to deep, meaningful relationships.
- True Self is Resilient: Life throws challenges at us, but when we live as our true selves, we become more resilient. We’re less swayed by what others think and less likely to be pulled into people-pleasing. We stand firm, knowing who we are in Christ.
- True Self Operates from Abundance: When you’re in your true self, you believe there is plenty for everyone—plenty of love, plenty of opportunities, plenty of joy. You stop living in scarcity, constantly worried that there’s not enough (or that you're not enough).
- True Self is Full of Joy: Joy isn’t dependent on circumstances. It’s always there, like the sun shining behind the clouds. Living as your true self allows you to experience deep, abiding joy that transcends life’s ups and downs.
Moving from Fear to Love
A key difference between the true self and the false self is where you’re operating from: fear or love. When you find yourself acting out of fear—whether it’s fear of rejection, fear of failure, or fear of not being enough—ask yourself, "How can I shift to love?" Love is the essence of your true self. It’s how God sees you and how He calls you to live.
This transformation, of course, doesn’t happen overnight. It’s a process, one that takes a lifetime for most of us. But I believe the more we commit to it, the more we can bring a little bit of heaven to earth. You can begin to live with more purpose, more peace, and more joy, right here, right now.
I can’t wait to see what happens when you start living more from your true self. You’ve got everything you need—God’s love, His Spirit, and a community cheering you on.
Until next time, all my love.
