230. Ready to Create Joy in Midlife?! How One Thought Can Transform Your Day!

“Everything is always working out for me.”
It’s a simple yet profound phrase, and if you let it, it can become a belief that will serve you well in all areas of your life. You might also like this variation: “It’s all rigged in my favor.” We teach this in my Life Mentoring School because it’s a practical way to train your brain to look for the good, even when life feels hard.
I first started practicing thoughts like this years ago, and it has truly transformed the way I approach life. Honestly, I think I’ve always leaned toward trying to find the good, likely because of my difficult past. But it wasn’t until I learned specific mindset skills that I realized how powerful this practice could be.
This thought is loosely based on one of my favorite Bible verses, Romans 8:28: “All things work together for good to those who love God.” Deep down, I believe that at the core of life, God loves us, He’s for us, and somehow everything will work out for our good. But it’s one thing to know that and another to live it daily. Practicing this belief can help in every situation, big or small.
You can apply this thought in the simplest situations. Maybe you’re out shopping, looking for your favorite sweatshirt, and they don’t have your size. Or perhaps your vacation plans fall through, or worse—you lose a job you loved. Even in those moments, ask yourself, “What if this is all working out in my favor?”
I’ve even practiced this thought in some tough health situations. Having gone through my own health challenges, I know it can feel impossible to find the silver lining. But when you start looking for it, you’ll find it. It might take time, but it’s always there.
Your Brain is Wired for Negativity (But You Can Change That!)
Our brains are wired to focus on what’s wrong. That’s why it’s so easy to spiral into negativity. You don’t have to do any special work to see the bad; your brain naturally goes there. But seeing the good? That requires practice. You have to intentionally offer your brain new beliefs, like “everything is working out for me.”
This practice can turn your day—or your life—around. Imagine something frustrating happens. What if instead of letting it ruin your day, you simply ask, “How could this be for my good?” It’s a small shift, but it can have a huge impact.
I truly believe that even in life’s most difficult moments, there is a gift. It might be hard to see at first, but if you’re willing to stay open to the possibility, you will find it. When I was getting certified as a life coach back in 2019, I had a lot going on. In the same week I decided to launch my coaching business, we got permanent custody of Thomas, our foster son. On the surface, it seemed like terrible timing—how could I do both?
But I leaned into the belief that it was all for me. I reminded myself that the timing was perfect, even though it didn’t feel that way at first. And guess what? It was. The tools I was learning as a coach became the tools I needed most during that time. I was my own best client, and that year became one of the most transformative of my life.
Is there something in your life right now that you’re labeling as “bad timing” or “terrible”? What if, instead, you asked, “What if this is all working out for me?” It’s such a powerful way to shift your perspective. Suddenly, what felt like a roadblock becomes an opportunity for growth, learning, or even joy.
When you start believing that everything is rigged in your favor, you open yourself up to endless possibilities. And over time, as you get better at practicing this belief, you’ll see the gifts that life’s challenges bring.
If this mindset resonates with you, I invite you to join my upcoming certification program for Christian life coaches. It’s a robust program rooted in both scripture and the latest tools in neuroscience and psychology. You’ll not only transform your own life, but you’ll also learn how to help others transform theirs. We’re starting a new round in February, and we’d love to have you.
So, dear ones, as you go through your day, I challenge you to ask yourself, “What if everything is working out for me?” You might be surprised at the joy and peace this simple question brings.
Have a beautiful and joyful day, and I’ll see you next time!
